I received my undergraduate degree form the University of Montana and worked for many years in the medical profession and Community Mental Health. I obtained my Masters in Social Work from the University of Kansas in 1996. I obtained my license from the State of Washington in 2001 after receiving required supervision. In addition to my MSW, I also have a Masters in Business Administration and worked as Social Services Director at several agencies. I have lived in numerous states throughout the United States.
Given my broad experiences in the field and my opportunity to work in a number of interesting locations, I am very comfortable working with a wide population of people. I am comfortable working with people who have a variety of concerns and issues. However, I am particularly interested and experienced with people who report depression and anxiety as their primary treatment focus. I also have extensive experience and interest in working with people who identify a history of trauma. In addition to those areas of interest , I enjoy working with children and young adults. I feel confident working with anyone who is experiencing relationship issues or grief and loss.
I believe the foundation of counseling is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Although there are a variety of CBT approaches, I am particularly experienced with the Rational Emotive Therapy (RET) approach. I have received numerous trainings and have many "tools in my toolbox" to help you. Every person is unique and each person requires a different approach (or tool) so I will adapt my approach to you and your goals.
The goal of therapy /counseling is to reduce discomfort and to limit the symptoms that interfere in our ability to enjoy our lives. I believe in the inherent right of each of us to live authentic fulfilling lives that are based on our OWN expectations and values. I look forward to working with you to help you achieve your hopes and dreams.
