Provider Details

Most recently, I was a psychologist for the past eleven years at the local Walla Walla veterans’ hospital, working with returning combat veterans and spouses.   I love what I do and I have learned a lot being a temporary guest in so many people's lives.   I find that safety, trust, and the working relationship that we develop is most important in counseling.   I am an unusually effective listener and strive to understand each person from their unique location in life.   Life circumstance, and who you are and whatr you cherish are important components in giving you the deeper understanding that you crave.   I have trained in several therapeutic styles and fit my style to the person that comes to me.    I have worked in counseling for 38 years as a psychologist.  I

I have lived and worked abroad over seven years and traveled to 45 countries as a student of culture. I taught abroad in Lebanon and Iran in the 1970’s, then worked as a pastoral counselor at a San Francisco Bay Area seminary for eight years.   This background allows me to better understand a broad range of people and their issues.   i work hard not to make assumptions but to make sure I hear the authentic you sharing with me in an atmosphere that does not judge you.  I very much enjoy program development and consultation.  Couples counseling is a specialty.   I do not bring religion or proseltyze in the session unless you bring it up.   Too many people have suffered at the hands of organized religion so I am specially senstive here.

Modalities: Individuals, couples, families and groups on occasion.

Foci: Trauma, AVES, loss, honor/shame, relationship concerns, substance abuse, EAP, and career counseling.  I have a faith-informed practice that assists me in understanding moral wounds...and honor/shame socialization.  I do NOT eulogize and seek to influence one’s theology. Clarification should come from local pastor.  Specialized training in couples, complex issues, program development.
