What is most important in my work is a sense of comfort and trust between the client and counselor. I use a number of different modalities depending upon the needs and comfort of my clients. These may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused CBT, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Positive Parenting instruction, instruction on successful and compassionate communication and Mindfulness Based CBT.
I integrate mindfulness into my work, frequently encouraging clients to begin mindfulness practice, at times providing guided meditation during the session to ground both the client and myself. This can lay the foundation for good therapeutic work and ends the session encouraging calm and clarity of mind.
I identify as an LGBTQI ally and am a cofounder of Community Pride Walla Walla, a local LGBTQI advocacy group. I am on the Board of Directors for Blue Mountain Heart To Heart, a local non-profit that works to promote public health and increase wellness in the community with advocacy, education and harm reduction. I feel strongly about providing safe, accepting and comfortable spaces for all who need care regardless of race, ethnicity, gender or sexuality.
